Several Denmark riders dominated the podium for the 2022 Rockcliffe Classic held on Sunday 13 November.
Set amongst the rolling hills and bushland of the Rockcliffe Winery property, the Cross Country Mountain Bike event saw riders competing several laps, elbow to elbow in the undulating course.
Junior riders enjoyed a new race format and course this year, with competitors having to ride as many laps as possible within the allocated thirty minute period.
Local rider Jy Drummond led the way, smashing out five laps to win overall and his age category. With fellow local rider Flynn Devonport not far behind, also winning his age category.
With several riders travelling from Albany, Mount Barker and as far as Bunbury to race, the event was also an opportunity to showcase the Denmark region.
The Senior XC event offered a longer with more elevation, and riders had to complete the allocated number of laps according to their race category. The Mens and Womens A grade categories were won by local riders Toby Lefort and Karis Aplin. Whilst Colin Ross took out the E-bike category in a battle against Craig Hickey.
Club President Brad Drummond said “it’s great to see the increase in participation from all age groups, males and females. We had over 20 Junior and Senior riders who rode their first MTB race.”
“The Rockcliffe property provides the perfect venue for this family friendly race format, just minutes from the town centre. We are grateful for the support from Rockcliffe and major Club Sponsors Castle Drilling, MCC Contractors and Monkey Rock Mountain Bike Company. It is with the support of these local businesses that these events are possible.”
